Dr. Alter offers silicone and saline testicle implants. The silicone implants are safe and feel natural though they are slightly firmer than a typical testicle. These silicone testicle implants are made of a gel that will not leak if punctured or injured. The saline implants are potentially softer but are not available in adult sizes. Therefore, silicone implants are placed in almost all adults.
The surgery is relatively minor with mild discomfort. It takes about an hour and is performed in a fully accredited surgical center under general anesthesia. If performed with meticulous care, there are very few complications. However, if placed casually or without skill, the implant can be poorly positioned resulting in an aesthetic deformity and possibly discomfort. It is much more difficult to revise a malpositioned implant.
Dr. Alter will see you the day before your surgery, and you can return home 2-3 days after the operation. If you have a relatively sedentary job, you can likely return to work in 5 days. You can resume sexual intercourse in about 4 weeks.
