Depending on your surgery, a touchup procedure may be necessary to achieve the desired look.
Breast Implants – Male To Female
Male-to-female breast implant surgery for transgender patients is similar to implantation in genetic females, but there are a few distinct differences. Transwomen may have poorly formed breasts, asymmetry, a high breast fold, low areolae, and a wide chest wall. Therefore, different techniques are used to achieve desired looks for every patient.
Many patients choose gel-filled implants, which are usually inserted through an incision on the underside of each breast. Saline-filled implants can be inserted through an incision along the border of the skin and areola. Each implant is usually placed underneath the breast tissue and pectoralis major muscle, which is then released to ensure a more natural appearance.
If the breast is distorted or deformed, more extensive surgery may be necessary to achieve the desired result.
Breast implants are proven safe and have been performed for years.
Chest Contouring – Female To Male
Female-to-male transgender patients often require chest contouring to achieve the male appearance they desire. The required surgery depends on breast size and the amount of excess skin. Small breasts can be removed through an incision around the junction of the skin and areola. At the same time, the nipple and areola can be reduced. Larger breasts must be removed though a gentle concave-up transverse incision with a free nipple graft placed on each side in the correct position. Every attempt is made to minimize scarring. Liposuction is often combined with these procedures to provide optimal contouring.
Occasionally, the contouring can be staged into two procedures in an attempt to minimize scarring. The keys to successful chest contouring are choosing the correct operation and compulsive marking to achieve symmetry.
There is very mild discomfort in most patients.
