Overview
Vaginal rejuvenation refers to several cosmetic procedures available for female genitalia, including:
- Labiaplasty
- Clitoropexy & Clitoral Hood Reduction
- Secondary Labia Reconstruction
- Labia Majora Remodeling
- Clitoral Reduction
- Combination Surgeries
- Perineoplasty and Vaginal Tightening
Women may develop looseness of the vaginal wall due to childbirth or as a result of aging. With vaginal childbirth, women often undergo an episiotomy or incision on the bottom of the vagina for passage of the baby. This is repaired shortly after the delivery, but often the repair is inadequate, and the vaginal opening may remain noticeably larger and looser than before. The distance between the vagina and anal opening may also be shortened and the area is often unsightly.
A perineoplasty closes the opening and lengthens the perineum (area between the vagina and anus), which helps to rejuvenate the appearance and tightness of the vaginal opening. It is often associated with internal vaginal tightening surgery with or without correction of urinary incontinence.
Dr. Alter offers a variety of procedures to help women to tighten, correct, and improve the condition of their vagina, including stem cell therapy. Often multiple procedures can be done simultaneously to ensure optimal results.
FEMTOUCH NON-INVASIVE VAGINAL LASER REJUVENATION
Dr. Alter is excited to offer patients a non-invasive vaginal rejuvenation procedure with the innovative FemTouch by Lumenis. It uses carbon dioxide (CO2) laser energy to create new vaginal cells and to stimulate collagen production in the vaginal tissue.
This innovative treatment repairs and strengthens the tissue that lines the vaginal wall, leading to a tighter, thicker vaginal cavity. The results are a healthier vaginal wall with increased lubrication, elimination of tender areas, and possible improvement in urinary control.
The minimally invasive laser device is inserted into the vagina and emits laser energy into the tissue of the vaginal wall. This causes “micro-injuries” along the tissue. The body receives the signal that it has been injured and releases stem cells and healing factors to the site to repair the damage. Cells are replaced and collagen is produced, which improves the health of the surrounding skin and tissue.
This painless procedure takes roughly 15 minutes, and there is little downtime post-procedure. Some patients notice a warm sensation that lasts a short time. A hydrating gel is provided that can help minimize any discomfort. No intercourse is allowed for 72 hours.
